Two-car crash injures lone driver

A two-car accident in the residential neighborhood of 1200 block of Old Bardwell Drive near S. Hall Street sent the lone driver to the hospital for injuries on Wednesday, Oct. 29.

Apartment Homicide - October 24

On October 24, 2020 at approximately 1:00 a.m. the Ennis Police Department received a call in reference to shots fired in the apartment complex located at 1001 Biloxi Dr. in Ennis. Upon arrival responding officers located a deceased male in an apartment. The male had been shot at least one time. Officers called it a targeted murder.

Witnesses at the scene said 3 to 4 males forcibly entered the apartment. The deceased was identified as Alejandro Garcia, 30, of Ennis. Ennis Fire Dept. and AMR personnel also responded to the scene.

Haymaze, pumpkins, carnival food, downtown

A month of crowd-pleasing extends through next week when the Haymaze and Pumpkin Patch are joined by carnival style food downtown. The family fun, autumn photo ops and tasty treats begin on Thursday, Oct. 29, and continue through Sunday, Nov. 1.

Sponsored by Ennis Main Street, each day begins at 1 p.m. and lasts until 9 p.m. The only thing with a price tag are food items.

5 hopefuls vie for EISD school board

Election Day, Nov. 3, is less than two weeks away and as always, there is plenty on the line, nationally, statewide and locally. Of particular importance is the selection of two individuals to fill vacancies on the Ennis Independent School District Board of Trustees.

This ballot was originally set for the spring, but due to the coronavirus shutdown the election will now be held during the general election. It was during the Aug. 11 board meeting that EISD Superintendent Jay Tullos officially called for the election on Nov. 3.

A need for speed

An annual area highlight, the AAA Fall Nationals at the Texas Motorplex, capped another weekend of winners, new and familiar, at the 35th NHRA Camping World Drag Racing Series national event.

Texas Motorplex General Manager, Andy Carter, said the racing was great and “we couldn’t be happier. Everyone at the Motorplex should thank Governor Greg Abbott and Ellis County Judge Todd Little for their efforts to allow us to host thousands of fans this weekend. We had a great, safe and fun event.”

Pedestrian killed crossing Hwy 287

A spectator at the Texas Motorplex race track was struck and killed crossing US Highway 287 while departing on foot at approximately 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 17.

The Fall Nationals event was taking place over the weekend when a group of people were walking across the highway to a privately owned parking area near the Texas Motorplex in Ennis. A pedestrian was hit by a 2014 Ford Mustang that was traveling southbound.

Ennis Police and Fire Departments and AMR paramedics responded to the call.
