Ennis High School Marching Band starts rehearsing for the fast-approaching 2019-2020 school year on Wednesday morning, July 31. Director Gary Goodwin begins year No. 35 overall in his career, 26 in a row at Ennis. According to him, student leadership starts meeting on Wednesday, with freshman arriving the following day, Aug. 1, in the morning. What is anticipated as the largest-ever Ennis band, holds their initial full-band practice on Thursday night. In excess of 250 members.

Theatre Rocks begins the seventh season of productions under Bill and Suzanne Rhoten with a rendition of the 1986 Pullitzer Prize winning Crimes of the Heart. It opens next week, Aug. 9-10, and continues on Aug. 16-17 and 23-25.

The first show of the new season is set in the mid-20th century in small-town Hazlehurst, Mississippi. Written by Beth Henley, an SMU grad, it was also nominated for a Tony Award for best play.

The section on Cool Rooftop Patios in DFW ranked bars and restaurants with no ceilings.
