The National Active and Retired Federal Employees (NARFE) Chapter 1191 held its monthly meeting on Tuesday, 9 Jul 2019, at the Asian King Buffet in Waxahachie. The guest speaker was Lee Calvert who spoke on bee culture and saving bees after a colony collapse. Calvert grew up in Ellis County and served 5 years in the Marines on active duty and 3 in the Reserves. After military service he returned to the Forreston area where he and his family now farm 3,500 acres in addition to the bee and honey business. He also serves as Vice President of the Ellis County Farm Bureau.

Ennis grad makes Dean’s list

Austin Cervantes, a former Ennis student and tennis player, was listed as having qualified for its President’s and Dean’s List at Schreiner University. A 4.0 GPA is required for inclusion on the President’s list. Cervantes, a freshman, was on the Dean’s list in the fall semester. That involves making a 3.50 GPA and at least 12 hours credit. He will be a sophomore this fall. Schreiner University is an independent coeducational liberal arts university located in Austin, Texas.

Ennis Regional Medical Center continues to deepen its roots in this area and supplying free physicals to area athletes is an expression of their importance.

Hundreds of junior high and high school athletes must have a physical prior to suiting up and donning their respective school colors. At an estimated $30 per physical, that amount climbs quickly into the thousands when considering Ennis has 300 students playing football.
