City, county, agree on Week of Prayer

Mayor Angie Juenemann recently signed a proclamation designating Oct. 3-10 as a week of prayer in Ennis. It will join other similar efforts by local cities, which County Judge Todd Little also supported with a resolution at the county courthouse this week.

The week will culminate with a prayer event at Lumpkins Stadium in Waxahachie on Oct. 10. Betty Honza, an Ennisite, said the city will play an active part in the weeklong spiritual focus, as well as the highlight at the football stadium.

Early morning wreck on SB I-45

A two-vehicle accident on southbound I-45 at the Ellis-Navarro County line seriously injured a driver from Corsicana at 4:26 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 21. Texas Department of Public Safety Troopers reported the crash on IH-45 about ¾ mile south of the Loves Travel Stop and FM 1182.

A preliminary investigation stated that a 2021 white F-350 pickup that was towing a 2012 red Gooseneck trailer was traveling in the left lane, south on I-45. The second vehicle, a 2001 silver Honda Accord, was also traveling southbound, behind the pickup and trailer.

Ellis County resists federal vaccine mandates

Defying what the government is commanding in regards to recent edicts forcing individuals and businesses to submit to vaccines or suffer consequences, the Ellis County Commissioners’ Court passed a resolution in a unanimous vote of opposition. Describing them as unconstitutional federal mandates, the 4-0 vote included County Judge Todd Little.

Precinct No. 2 Commissioner Lane Grayson, of Ennis, was absent from the meeting. Reached by The Ennis Daily News, Grayson said he was on vacation, though he is “in full support of this resolution.”

Way-maker is Ward 2 commissioner

Lifelong Ennis resident Bruce Jones is a way-maker.

He was elected to a three year term as City Commissioner of Ward 2 back in November of 2020, and has quickly become involved in the plans and direction for Ennis.

Recently retired, he welcomed the opportunity to serve his hometown, especially the Ward 2 position left open after Marco Hernandez’ term expired. The mature neighborhood includes the Madison to downtown area, to the Ennis State Bank and over to Lampasas.

Wray, Harrison counter views at GOP forum

Tuesday night at the Ellis County Grand Old Party (GOP) monthly meeting, now held inside the Champions Club at the Texas Motorplex, just northwest of Ennis, the two finalists for the State Representative seat in Austin, John Wray and Brian Harrison, squared off in a forum before a packed crowd.

The chief topics of discussion were all related to conservative concerns as they relate to Ellis County residents.

“It was a huge crowd,” said County Commissioner Lane Grayson, of Ennis. “This was a great representation of the subjects that conservatives are most concerned about.”
