Knowing when to stand and when to be silent

Each week I spend a portion of my days writing and preparing messages. I pray and seek the Lord’s voice as I strain my spiritual ear to hear the direction he is leading me. We know that thousands of men and women write and speak for audiences regularly and they enjoy it. However, when it comes to the ministry and representing God, relaying what we believe is his truth is one of the most serious assignments I can think of and is rarely comfortable. Some have been serving as a watchman on the wall for many years and sense the reverence and responsibility that comes with the assignment.

Foul line and umps

Fans of baseball know most of the rules of the game, at least enough to enjoy watching one of America’s most popular sports. One of them is a common rule that regularly comes into play. The foul line.

The foul line in baseball is the two lines that extend from home plate, through first base and third base, all the way to the outfield foul poles. If the baseball is hit onto this line, it is in fair territory and is a base hit. If a baseball is hit into foul territory, beyond these lines, it is a foul ball. Simple enough.

Shirley Ann Lummus Spencer was born on March 5, 1950, in Melvern, Arkansas, to Rose Ward and Raymond Lummus and entered into her eternal resting place on August 17, 2021, at UT Health Tyler.

Visitation will be held on Monday August 23, 2021, at 12:30 p.m. at J. E. Keevers at 408 N. Dallas St., Ennis. A graveside service will immediately follow at 2 p.m. at Myrtle Cemetery in Ennis.

Keith Joe Doherty

Keith Joe Doherty, 44, of Ennis, passed away at his home on August 6, 2021.

Keith was born in Augsburg, Germany, to Donald and Sharon Doherty on January 28, 1977.

Keith is survived by son, Koby Doherty; daughter, Kloe Doherty; grandson, Baker; granddaughter, Ozzy; mother, Sharon Doherty; sister, Juanette and husband Marty Prachyl and brother, Daniel Doherty.

Keith is preceded in death by his father, Donald Doherty; grandparents, Homer and Laura Doherty and Fred and Mildred Mikel.
