In my phone, I have saved the husband’s name followed by this endearing message, “Favorite Husband.”

It is true, of course, but upon my demise, that very message might cause others to wonder if there’s another husband lurking somewhere in the bushes.

There isn’t.

I have one favorite daughter.

One favorite son.

And one favorite husband. I have made certain that nobody in my family needs to feel threatened or undervalued.

Which is my point today.

When Dr. Sam said to me, “You’ve got the colon of a man half your age,” it was hard to keep from beaming. This must be how a mother feels when a complete stranger tells her how beautiful her new baby is.

Well, maybe not so much.

Still, it was hard not to feel proud of my big, fat, beautiful colon. It was like winning the Oscar for Best Digestive Organ. “I’d like to thank everyone who made this possible -- Mom and Dad for their genes, and especially all the little people, the antioxidants ...”

Super Tuesday, March 3, approaches at county polls

Primary season could be all but done after March 3 as many of the races and delegates for the larger states could be decided for all parties running on that date. A few states have scheduled their primaries for after Super Tuesday, but most of them will only move the needle slightly one way or another.

Make no mistake, however, Super Tuesday is the big enchilada for Republicans and Democrats.

A young and budding student and member of the Bardwell 4-H, Brayden Cole Deborde, won top honors for capturing Senior Champion Female and First Place Showmanship with his BFS Augusta Pride SW 809 ET in the Junior Shorthorn Heifer Show at the 2020 Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo.

The show hosted junior heifer exhibitors from across Texas competing for awards and over $39,000 in premiums. There were exhibitors from 235 of the 254 counties in Texas. They rep resented both 4-H and FFA clubs from counties and schools.

Gallo seeks gavel in new county courtroom

Ellis County is opening a brand new, third Court at Law in Waxahachie following the election of the judge who will preside. The race has two Republicans aspiring for the gavel, Vance Hinds and Joe Gallo. The latter has visited Ennis numerous times of late, including an exclusive interview with The Ennis News.

He is chocked full of qualifications and has strengths and views certain to connect with locals.

I have never been to the famous Biltmore Estate and Gardens in Asheville but many friends have been there. Of course, I’ve read much about the history of the Vanderbilt family as well as their extraordinary North Carolina home.

The gardens are magnificent – acres of formal and informal gardens arranged by America’s pioneering landscape designer Frederick Law Olmsted, whom I’ll discuss later.

Holding true to a season-long pattern of explosive starts and hungry finishes, Ennis vaulted to a 22-6 lead and then rallied late to whip Cleburne, 64-56, on the road.

The win clinches third place in District 14-5A. At 6-4 overall, the team will take on the second place team from District 13 in the playoffs. While Lancaster (28-1) is 9-0 in the district, Poteet (13-10) and Kaufman (17-12) are bound for a photo-finish with 7-3 and 6-3 district records, respectively. The two meet on Feb. 18 in Mesquite to decide who Ennis plays. Kaufman won the first meeting, 64-57.

Howard, Noel lead Ennis rackets at 287 tourney

Despite cold temperatures to turned the fuzzy yellow sphere into snowballs, a handful of Ennis Tennis players finished high over the weekend at the Highway 287 tournament. A large number of talented team from the area participated, which explains why the Lions grabbed a long first place trophy.

Juniors Zoe Howard and Josh Noel united for another mixed doubles title, with Rylee Boston and Jacob Mraz, also juniors, coming in fifth.

In girls pairs, Maegen Newsom, a junior and sophomore Ella Goedrich reached the finals before settling for second.
