Hit and run arrest made in Ferris

An arrest has been made by the Ferris Police Department at 11:20 a.m. on Thursday morning, Jan. 6, after officers made contact with Jorge Garcia. He was deemed a person of interest in relation to an accident one week prior that involved injury or death.

Listed as a fatality hit and run, Garcia was placed in custody and has been charged with the responsibility. Law enforcement indicated the suspect, who is presumed innocent until proven guilty, was arrested and booked into the Ellis County Jail, 300 S. Jackson St. Waxahachie. The charge is a seconddegree felony.

Hit and run kills Ennis man

A yet to be identified vehicle, traveling south on the I-45 service road, south of Alma, struck and killed an Ennis man, who was riding a bicycle.

The accident took place on Dec. 2 at 5:45 a.m., approximately 90 minutes prior to sunrise. It took place 0.57 miles south of Alma in Ellis County, when Alvin Le Roy Short, 37, of Ennis, was riding a bicycle traveling north on the service road in front of the southbound vehicle. As a result, Short thrown off the bicycle and onto the roadway. He was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Father, son, killed crossing FM 664

A tragic accident that took the lives of a father and son, after sundown on Monday, Nov. 15, has drawn a great amount of community financial support.

Shortly after 6 p.m. the Texas Department of Public Safety Troopers were requested by the Ferris Police Department to investigate an auto-pedestrian crash on FM 664 in the city of Ferris.

Wreck kills one, injures five

A 16-year-old Waxahachie female driver died as a result of a single car accident on Saturday, Aug. 7, about 2:30 p.m. at 122 Shoreside Trail, Waxahachie. She was pronounced deceased at the scene. There were five other passengers in the vehicle, all of them receiving serious injuries, and were transported to hospitals in the area.

Wreck on Kaufman claims one life

A one vehicle accident occurred at approximately 1 a.m. on July 13 that resulted in a single fatality according to the Ennis Police Department.

Michael Coffey, 40, of Ennis, was south bound on South Kaufman in the 1900 block, near the old Gebo’s, when his vehicle, a 2007 white Toyota Prius, crossed a lane and struck a tree on the east side of the road. The driver was pronounced dead by Justice of the Peace Dan Cox. He was transported to the Dallas County Medical Examiner’s Office for autopsy. That report has yet to be made available to The Ennis News.

Fatality on Hwy 287 at Motorplex

A two-vehicle collision near the Texas Motorplex on U.S. Highway 287 at Boyce Road left one man dead and two passengers injured on Sunday morning, June 6.

The accident at 11:26 a.m. halted traffic for miles while the Ennis Police Department and emergency responders served those involved.

Head on, three vehicle crash kills one

A three vehicle, dominoeffect crash on Highway 34 caused death to the driver of the smallest vehicle on Monday, Dec. 14. The accident was caused by the other drivers at approximately 3:06 p.m.

Texas Department of Public Safety Troopers responded to the scene near Cut Off Road on SH-34 about one mile south of the Kaufman county line in Ellis County.

Waxahachie man dies in cycle crash

A one vehicle motorcycle crash cost the life of its driver three miles west of Waxahachie on Monday, Nov. 23, according to Sgt. Sara Warren, who directs Media Communications for TDPS.

Safety Troopers responded to the scene at 4:37 p.m. on Farm-to-Market road 1446, which is also known as Old Buena Vista Road, though it is Cantrell Street at I-35 or farther east.

Forced entry, gunshot claims Ennis man

Ennis Police are continuing a homicide investigation into the Oct. 24 murder of Alejandro Garcia, 30, who was shot in his apartment at 1001 Biloxi Drive.

On October 24, 2020 at approximately 1:00 a.m. the Ennis Police Department received a call in reference to shots fired in the apartment complex located at 1001 Biloxi Dr. in Ennis. Upon arrival responding officers located a deceased male in an apartment. The male had been shot at least one time. Officers called it a targeted murder. 

Witnesses at the scene said 3 to 4 males forcibly entered the apartment. The deceased was identified as Alejandro Garcia, 30, of Ennis. Ennis Fire Dept. and AMR personnel also responded to the scene.
