Juenemann proclaims mayoral re-election bid

Angeline Juenemann announced on Facebook on Thursday, Jan. 14, her plans to run for a second four-year term as mayor of Ennis. She was voted into office in May of 2016.

The first woman ever elected as mayor says her “love and desire are to continue to work for my community.” It is those elements that led her to seek another term.

Lil’ detective Kennedy Slovak discovers downtown elves

Thirty-three locations in downtown Ennis were subject to scores of visiting elves in recent months… so many that city leaders asked for help in detecting there whereabouts. This past week a drawing was held of those who submitted which stores had an elf inhabiting their premises.

A bright and promising future awaits the Ennis High School marching band, whose superior-rating includes 63 of the last 64 years. It is because of the dedication and the developing skills evident in the members of the Ennis Junior High band.

Ellzey sworn in as State Rep

Local State Representative for this area, Jake Ellzey, was sworn in at the state capital in Austin on Tuesday for the 87th Texas Legislature. He succeeds John Wray in House District 10.

“I’m humbled and blessed to be able to serve the people of our community. I will serve with honor, dignity and quiet professionalism,” Rep. Ellzey said in press release the same day.

Mary Helen Gentry cookbook rereleased

The second edition of a cookbook by Mary Helen Gentry, longtime writer and social columnist for the Ennis News, has recently been published. The first edition was released in 2002.

President Donald Trump has been impeached, the first leader in United States history to be impeached twice by the House. The question now is whether he'll become the first President to be convicted by the Senate and removed from office. The House will introduce and pass the articles of impeachment, but the Senate is where the President being impeached faces a trial and a potential punishment.

Warrant issued for Sandoval

Ennis Police released a felony arrest warrant on Friday, Jan. 8, for a local resident, Adrian Sandoval, who is wanted for his role in the Dec. 4 double homicide of Rodney Dent, Jr., 24, and Caleb Clark, 21, both of Ennis.

The outstanding warrant charges Sandoval with capital murder and has already been entered into state and national data bases. Sandoval is approximately 5’6, weighs 180 pounds, and has black hair and brown eyes.
