Kaleidoscope presented to Ennis Library

Ennis Arts Commission presented a beautiful kaleidoscope sculpture as a donation to the Ennis Public Library on Aug. 8. Already installed, all residents and visitors are free to enjoy.

Seen through an eyepiece, a kaleidoscope is an optical instrument that uses mirrors to produce changing symmetrical patterns.

The idea was birthed and fully supported by the entire Arts Commission membership. The Adirondack chair project, a fundraiser of the EAC in 2018, was the primary source to cover the purchase.

Wakefield performs ‘Woman at the Well’

Local actress, author and lecturer Sandra Wakefield will perform the Biblical character “the woman at the well” at Tabernacle Baptist Church at 7 p.m. on Sept. 21.

Titled “An Evening with the Woman at the Well,” the event is sponsored by Tabernacle’s Women’s Ministry. Tabernacle is located at 1200 Country Club.

Edith Finley passes away at age 69

Former Ennis ISD assistant principal Edith Frances Finley, 69, passed away on Thursday, Aug. 22.

Beloved in both Ennis and in Waxahachie, where she taught history, math and English for the WISD, she was a drug coordinator and a counselor at both the elementary and secondary levels before coming to Ennis. Finley served as assistant principal at EISD elementary and secondary positions for 15 years.

New Texas laws fo into effect, Sept. 1

Several new laws were enacted during the last legislative session of the Texas Congress, most will take effect on Sept. 1.

The National Active and Retired Federal Employees (NARFE) Chapter 1191 held its monthly meeting on Tuesday, Aug. 13, 2019, at the Sirloin Stockade in Corsicana. The guest speaker was Leslie Leerskov, director of the Navarro College Small Business Development Center (SBDC) located at Navarro College in Corsicana. Texas has four SBDC regions and the local center operates within the 49 county North Texas SBDC Region in Ellis, Navarro Freestone and Limestone Counties with offices in Waxahachie, Corsicana, Fairfield and Mexia.
