The 1960’s hit by the Blood, Sweat & Tears made riding the ferris wheel popular again. Autumn Daze began with the Hay Maze, and then came the arrival of what has become an annual family hit, the fall carnival. Talley Amusements, the same people who provide rides at the Texas State Fair, have returned to North Plaza and along NW Main through Sunday evening. Plus there are concerts on Saturday, headlined by Don Felder, and the Bellamy Brothers on Sunday.

The National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association (NARFE), Chapter 1191, will hold its monthly meeting at the Sirloin Stockade in Corsicana on Tuesday, Nov. 9, 2021, from 11 a.m until 1 p.m. The Sirloin Stockade is located at 2508 W.7th Ave.(TX Hwy 31) in Corsicana.

For lovers of local history, the name Evelyn Goble will likely ring a bell. She died in 2009 at the age of nearly 100, fragile in body but not in mind.

For many years, this daughter of former Ennis mayor J. P. Sims was active in civic clubs here and in Waxahachie, was especially beloved for her “Divinity” chocolate candymaking, and in her later years was known as a reliable source on local history, a distinction she shared with the late George Graves, her contemporary and friend.

In their first meeting since the start of the pandemic, the Ennis Century Club met in September in the home of Mrs. Mary Helen (Jerry) Smith. Officers were installed for the 2021-2022 club year by Mrs. Patsy Jones Hord, as follows: President, Mrs. Kathy Morse; vice president, Mrs. Polly (Dr. James) Starr; recording secretary, Mrs. Janie (Steve) Howerton; corresponding secretary, Mrs. Irene Dugger; treasurer/parliamentarian, Mrs. Conni (Dr. Steve) Durbin; and publicity/reporter Mrs. Joy (Wallace) Roberts.
