Auditions at Theatre Rocks!

At 10 a.m. on Saturday, October 23, Theatre Rocks will be holding auditions for two remaining roles for Steel Magnolias. The roles of Shelby (age 22-37) and Clairee (age 45-65) are still open. Shelby is one of the leading roles.

Bristol Fall Fest new this year

Although threat of rain kept some away, the first annual Bristol Fall Festival took place last weekend and its organizers, Pasia Blalak and her daughter Catherine Becker, are looking forward to the Bristol Christmas Extravaganza they are also planning.

Located at her family’s Bristol ranch and named for Blalak’s late parents, Morris and Gwen Magness, a facility called Magness Party Barn, 1132 Stacks Road, has served a number of purposes with the Fall Fest and upcoming Christmas event being the latest.

Choir croons in maroon downtown

Jason Gadberry and the combined choirs from the EISD took their annual fall show outdoors last week when 175 singers performed at Minnie McDowal Park in the heart of Ennis.

A stage and risers were placed at the corner of North Dallas and West Knox for a concert of 10 songs which drew a crowd of approximately 400. It was considered the safest possible location for both singers and audience members. Selected patriotic and spirituals were performed by five choirs, each doing two numbers apiece, were well-received and prompted calls for an encore in the future.

Keep Ennis Beautiful has announced that the 2021 North Texas Community Cleanup Challenge (NTCCC) has officially begun. The North Texas Community Cleanup Challenge is a friendly competition among North Texas communities to see who can cumulatively pick up the most litter between Sept. 1 and Oct. 31.

Chamber seeks new president

Retired Ennis Chamber of Commerce President Jeannette Patak, left the civic group with a vacancy at the top. After joining the chamber in 1996, she was named president in 2007. The lifelong Ennis native served with distinction and will not be easily replaced.

The community organization partners with businesses and currently has over 400 members. According to Patak, the Executive Board has formed a search committee of nine. They will review applications for the position. Information has been posted on the Chamber’s Facebook site, as well as on Indeed.

Mexican musical band a downtown hit

Downtown Ennis was a musical sensation last Saturday when “Mornings at Minnie” came alive with the sounds of Mexico 2000 Ballet Folklorico in Minnie McDowal Park.

Several shoppers who had enjoyed the Downtown Ennis Bluebonnet Market appreciated the music and what Ennis – A Main Street City called an “awesome display of Hispanic heritage.”

Sarah Escobar was among the audience.

“I am from the Corsicana area, so this is new to me,” she said. ”I’ve been visiting my boyfriend’s family here in Ennis and we came out today to shop and to welcome this band.”
