ERSPA meets every other month

The Ennis Retired School Personnel Association serves eastern Ellis County and the surrounding areas. ERSPA meets the first Thursday of every other month at 2 p.m.

Events include organized trips and visits from guest speakers. The first meeting of the year will be Thursday, Feb. 6, at 2 p.m., at the EISD central office.

Active shooter response training held

Officer Roger Cole recently led a two-hour seminar on citizens’ response to active attacks on their facilities. Designed to address active shooter scenarios in local churches, the seminar gave citizens information on all phases of response to an attack at a church or business.

“We arm them with the information they need about how their body responds to the stress of the incident,” said Cole. “How to set up a security team, whether or not the team needs to be armed and other questions to ask when deciding if the church or business needs to add a security team.”

Garret Tims won a $500 purchase certificate toward a heifer for a 4-H or FFA project for exhibition at next year’s Fort Worth Stock Show & Rodeo. The certificate, presented by Stock Show Calf Scramble Committee Chairman, Paxton Motheral, was sponsored by Linebarger Goggan Blair & Sampson, LLP.

Ellis County Singers to Perform

Ellis County Singers, many of whom recently helped share the gospel in song at Carnegie Hall in New York City, will present a concert at First Presbyterian Church, 210 N. McKinney St, Ennis, on Sunday, Feb. 9, 2020, at 6 p.m.

The choir rehearses at First Baptist Church of Waxahachie and is directed by Chett Haynes, the church’s associate pastor for music and worship. Member of the choir are from many area of Ellis County and beyond, many from Ennis.

City Announces New EDC Meeting Location

Effective Feb. 11, 2020, the monthly Ennis Economic Development Corporation regular meetings will be held at the Welcome Center located at 201 NW Main St.

NARFE to Hold Monthly Meeting

The National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association (NARFE), Chapter 1191, will hold its monthly meeting at the Sirloin Stockade in Corsicana on Tuesday, Feb. 11, 2020, from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. The Sirloin Stockade is located at 2508 W. 7th Ave. (TX Hwy 31), Corsicana.

NARFE Chapter 1191 has members from Ellis, Navarro and surrounding counties. Members, guests, and all who are part of our federal active and retired family are invited.

Ennis Public Library Hosts Monthly Book Reader Groups

The Brown Bag group meets at 12:30 p.m. on the fourth Tuesday of each month. The Book Worms meet at 6:30 p.m. on the fourth Thursday of each month. Both groups consist of adult readers who read a book of their own choosing then review the book for the group. No pressure and lots of fun!

Programs Held at Cowboy Church of Ennis

Cowboy Church of Ennis, located at 429 S.E. I-45 Service Rd., Ennis, has the following programs open to the public. All are invited to join.

Grief Share is held weekly on Tuesdays at 7 p.m.

Rising Son Ministry, a 12-step program, is held weekly on Tuesdays at 7 p.m. Please contact April Gains at 972-921-1498 for more information.

Teen programs, ages 13-18, are held on Wednesdays at 7 p.m.
