Ennis, Rice marching bands among entrants

A traditional kickoff for the Christmas season is the annual Lights of Ennis (LOE) parade downtown. This year’s venue will feature 70 entries including the marching bands from Ennis and Rice High Schools, who are directed by Gary Goodwin and Kerry Hughes respectively. The parade will wind through downtown beginning at 7 p.m.

Chamber of Commerce President Jeanette Patak says this year’s parade is about the same size as last year’s, but she added the parade has been growing in size every year.

Isaac Watts wrote the words to one of the most beloved Christmas Carols of all time in 1719. First Presbyterian Church is celebrating the 300th anniversary of “Joy to the World” during the month of December. The theme of joy, as distinguished from happiness, will weave through the Advent worship series “Heaven and Nature Sing” on Sundays: Hopeful Joy, Loving Joy, Unabashed Joy, Peaceful Joy, and Compassionate Joy.

The Hoefer House B&B held its first ever Coat and Food Drive recently that drew widespread support from locals. Over 100 coats, 25 hoodies and 150 lbs of non-perishable food was collected. In addition, 10 lbs of ground meet was donated to the cause of helping families in need. All items collected were given to the Boys & Girls Club of Ennis and to Boston’s Market at Ennis High School. “I thought it was so amazing that our community showed up the way they did,” said Hoefer House owner Erica Todd.

Wastewater spill near treatment facility on Oak Grove

The City of Ennis had an unauthorized spill of wastewater from our collection system that began on Wednesday, November 13, 2019 at approximately 11:00 pm and was contained on Thursday, November 14, 2019 at 10:30 am. The spill was caused by the partial collapse of a 24-inch main trunk line that has been in service since 1961 and collects all the wastewater from the City and transports it to the Oak Grove Wastewater Treatment Facility. The location of the spill was approximately 1,200 feet north of the Wastewater Treatment Plant located at 2100 block of Oak Grove Rd., Ennis, Texas.
