Alma, Ennis Smokehouse tandem enjoy great start

If one is good, then two is double the fun, or so it is since Alma Smokehouse has added a second restaurant near downtown Ennis. The barbecue and the atmosphere is making the new site successful since it opened on South Kaufman (near E. Ennis Ave) in June.

Susan and Jesse Martinez own them both and work at both, though they praise how well the tag-team partnership with in-laws Amelia and John Valdez, is working.

“We’ve partnered up,” said Susan, “and while it’s a lot of work, we enjoy the process. Jesse and I are at both while John and Amelia focus on Ennis.

After ousting fellow Republican John Wray, who was the likely favorite, and doing so by 11 points in the September 28 runoff election, Harrison, 39, has been confident he is more than ready for the task at hand.

The Ennis Garden Club, with the support of the City of Ennis, recently purchased and planted a Red Oak Tree at the Ennis Veterans Memorial Park. In conjunction with both Veterans Day and Arbor Day, four local leaders, shovels in hand, broke ground, including Jerry Holland, military veteran, Annie Wartsbaugh, EGC 1st vice president, Pat Cody-Warren, EGC president, and Kyle Fisher, representing the City of Ennis.

Bristol Christmas Extravaganza set for December 4

The 2nd Annual Bristol Christmas Extravaganza will be held at Magness Party Barn at Magness Ranch, located at 1132 Stacks Road in Bristol, on Saturday, Dec. 4, organizer Pashia Blalock last week reminded the public on her Facebook page Bristol Christmas Extravaganza.

“It’s open to the public from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m.,” said event organizer Pashia Blalock. “We are asking everyone to please bring a new unwrapped toy for the Toys For Tots toy drive, for which we just became an official drop off site.”

Father, son, killed crossing FM 664

A tragic accident that took the lives of a father and son, after sundown on Monday, Nov. 15, has drawn a great amount of community financial support.

Shortly after 6 p.m. the Texas Department of Public Safety Troopers were requested by the Ferris Police Department to investigate an auto-pedestrian crash on FM 664 in the city of Ferris.
