Mystery of court case involving Ennis bottler

Not long ago, I was contacted by a Dennis Bohanon, a reader of the Ennis News’ “Memories” page, who had found some interesting information on a soda water bottling company here in Ennis founded in the late 19th century or the early 20th centuy. Research is ongoing but there’s enough information to share with other “Memories” page readers today. Here is what Dennis had to say about his discovery:

The Texas Department of Transportation (Tx-DOT) will host a virtual public meeting beginning Tuesday, April 21, 2020 as part of a feasibility study on proposed improvements to US 287 from State Highway 360 (SH 360) to West Lampasas Street.

The following businesses are open at this time to provide you with the services listed:

ABC Tires: 401 S. Kaufman St., 972-875-9874. Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. New and used, tire repair, automotive service, drop off and pick up.

Small business livelihood in Ennis, already battling the effects of the coronavirus pandemic, may apply for help following the April 6 meeting of Mayor Angie Juenemann and City Commissioners. They united to begin an economic stimulus plan that offers grants totaling nearly half a million dollars.

Small businesses, primarily those without the security of a large chain, are hanging on by the proverbial thread. A survey this week by one source implies 43 percent of such businesses will face permanent closure within six months due to the current effects of the coronavirus pandemic.

Going on a bear hunt

A Facebook group was started last week asking residents to put bears or stuffed animals in their windows. Families can drive around town and safely get out of the house during this difficult time and hunt for bears. Over 1200 people have joined the group and over 500 have placed bears and stuffed animals in their windows. What a great way for the community to come together and create something uplifting for children and families at this time!

 

Theaters look forward to reopening

Scheduled plays at the Ennis Public Theatre and Theatre Rocks have been canceled due to the threat of the COVID-19 virus but their directors are grateful to the casts, crews and audiences who have shown their concern and regret of the inevitable decision to suspend forthcoming shows’ production.

Ellis Co. virus figures remain bright

Ellis County residents can find solace in two numbers heading into the Eastern weekend. First, the Stay Home, Stay Safe order has drawn to within two-and-one-half weeks of ending. Second, the death toll related to the effects of coronavirus remains at two for another week.

The Home Safe mandate is in effect until Thursday, April 30, at midnight. Most area citizens are abiding by the health precaution while social distancing at 6-10 feet is applied.

Rare clothing item preserves family history
