Mayor Angie to broadcast weekly videos online

When ideas turn out nice, they are bound to be produced twice. So is the tale of last week’s Community Connect video of Ennis Mayor Angie Juenemann. A second production was posted this week on her Facebook page, Mayor Angie. The newest will air on Wednesday, April 8.

While Hollywood and TMZ will have to wait, City Spokesman Ashley Colunga told The Ennis News after the April 1 video went live, “We plan on releasing a new video every Wednesday.”

Ennis radio station intercedes for virus victims

One of the best kept secrets in Ennis is its only radio station, KWAH 95.5 FM, which can be picked up within 4-7 miles in any direction as well as online. Much of what is heard is acoustic Christian music and a prayer request line, plus a nightly email summary of the requests and testimonies. They originate locally as well as internationally due to people connecting on the internet.

Rising numbers of locals testing positive with Covid-19 has prompted City of Ennis officials, who continually monitor the pandemic, to put significant preventative measures in place. The strategic plan is part of the current Stay Home-Stay Safe Executive Order, which is in effect through April 17.

Since the number of cases in Ennis continues to increase, City leadership is taking more aggressive steps to slow the spread and protect the health and safety of the community.

On Friday, April 3, the following 8 actions were underway and expected to be complete by day’s end.

Helping Hands of Ennis stands ready to help meet needs, though an influx of drop-ins has yet to rise due to the coronavirus dynamic. Located at 604 N.E. Main Street, the non-profit organization has been coming to the aid of Eastern Ellis County families since 1988.

County issues stay at home, stay safe order

Ellis County Commissioners Court rendered a mandate to all 175,000 of its residents to Stay Home and Stay Safe following a marathon six-hour meeting inside the Historic Courthouse in Waxahachie on Tuesday evening. The order, which carries a hefty fine and penalty for violators, is part of an amended disaster declaration that was passed a week prior.

In a meeting that begged for a closing amen, four Ellis County Commissioners debated the decision to Shelter-In-Place until a split-decision vote required County Judge Todd Little determine the direction for nearly 180,000 residents.

Staying at home for a few weeks, except for minimally imperative trips to the grocer, drive-throughs, pharmacist or doctor, is meant to lessen interaction with others. That mandate can feel oppressive to some or a piece of cake to others.

Mayor Angie Juenemann took to Facebook on Thursday in a five-minute video message to area residents about the City of Ennis declaring an emergency order, “Stay Safe - Stay Home,” which went into operation at midnight on March 26. It will remain in full force until 11:59 p.m. on April 17.

Similar to the mandate Ellis County recently passed, whose order expires on April 3, the Ennis command is in effect until Friday, April 17. It coincides with the just announced order by the Ennis Independent School District
