A week ago President Donald Trump called for a National Day of Prayer in response to the coronavirus outbreak in the U.S. Since then health officials have asked to avoid large gatherings, which naturally prompted pastors to respond to the pandemic.

Ennis responds to statewide edict

Governor Greg Abbott issued an executive order that will prohibit social gatherings of more than 10 people in the State of Texas, and then ruled that gyms and bars are to be closed as well as restaurant dining areas. Restaurants can provide drive-thru and curbside service - only.

The command states that retail, commercial and business activities need to observe social distancing, that is, maintaining 6 feet in distance from other people. That has proven critical to slowing the spread of the virus along with following all CDC recommendations for preventative measures.

Not only locally is their cancellation felt but nationally as both events drew thousands of visitors from around the country, even the world.

Where the bluebonnets grow

The cancellation of the Ennis Bluebonnet Trails Festival for only the second time in its 58-year history has brought memories of this city-defining event and hopes that it and other popular large scale local events will soon resume.

Although the 2020 festival is cancelled, the trails will open April 1 as usual.

Meantime the whole month of April is devoted to the appeal of the legendary Bluebonnet Trails, first mapped out in 1952 and still attracting locals and tourists alike.

In order to protect the public from the novel coronavirus (COVID-19), the City is taking extraordinary measures to prevent the spread of this potentially devastating disease throughout our community. On March 13, the Governor of the State of Texas issued a proclamation certifying that COVID-19 poses an imminent threat of disaster in the state and declared a state of emergency for all counties in Texas.
