Pesky Scurry-Rosser gave Palmer all it could handle before relinquishing the lead in the fourth quarter as the host Bulldogs came-from-behind to win, 21-14. Bralen Lopez scored one touchdown, set up the game-winner and tacked on an interception that sealed the comeback.

The win improved the Black-and-Gold Barkers to 7-1 overall, 3-1 in District 7-3A, while the Wildcats slid to 2-4 and 0-3. Rice (4-3, 3-0) won their fourth straight game, 52-42, over Mildred. Palmer treks to Blooming Grove (5-2, 3-0) on Oct. 23.

Ennis varsity volleyball might be as green as frog feathers this season, but the Lady Lions show no evidence of quit. True, their miscues outnumber their highlights, but this group enjoys the process together.

A week ago they took a game from Red Oak for the first time in seven years. Not a match, but a single game, which tied the best-of-five set, before the visiting Hawks buckled down and won the next two to win, 3-1.

In what was billed as the District 7-3A showdown when the season began, Palmer crushed Edgewood on the road, 30-6, with a performance was all meatand-taters. HC Don Waddle’s Bulldogs stuck to the basics of running the ball, and when they got tired, they ran some more.

“There was a lot to like,” said the old schooldriven coach. “I was very pleased with how we prepared and how we played. Two things I liked most about the win were how our defense played against the pass and how we rushed the ball.”
