Judge Little appeals for county calm and unity

Ellis County Judge Todd Little issued a statement encouraging residents of Ellis County to remain calm during this time of uncertainty concerning the Novell Coronavirus (CO- VID-19). He reminded citizens there were no confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Ellis County as of Friday’s statement release on Friday, March 13.

Pastors, business leaders and city officials gathered in the new Ennis Welcome Center for the quarterly meeting of #Bibles, #Badges and #Businesses to present information to spread to congregations and others about Ennis’ preparedness concerning COVID-19 as well as to discuss the 2020 census. COVID-19 is the latest coronavirus that began in Wuhan, China and has spread to the point that the World Health Organization has categorized the virus as a pandemic. On Friday, President Donald Trump declared a state of national emergency regarding the crisis.

Police practicing use of new Segways

During festival events and when downtown is busy, patrons may notice a new wrinkle by law enforcement by Ennis Police Department. Two new Segways were recently presented to the EPD for use during patrols. New Chief Andy Harvey even took part in the training on how to ride the device during a training session this week.

The carnival is coming town

The popular carnival Main Street Midway, entering its third year in operation in 2020, comes to town next month.

“Ennis is absolutely giddy over the carnival coming back to the heart of downtown for the third year in a row,” said City of Ennis Marketing and Communications Director Ashley Colunga.”The last two years have been an enormous success providing families from all over the opportunity to spend quality time together and create lasting memories.”

Currently, the cancellations of major events that would draw large crowds are happening to help curtail the spread of the virus that is very contagious and can be spread by asymptomatic persons.

Ennis Regional prepared to test for coronavirus

Ennis Regional Medical Center is on high alert and is prepared to respond to anyone seeking testing for the new coronavirus, according to CEO Robert Honeycutt.

In response to Gov. Greg Abbott’s statements on Friday afternoon, ERMC will now have limited access to the hospital, with all walk-ins directed to the Emergency Department entrance. Honeycutt added that current patients will also have restrictions placed on visitors. Only one visitor at a time will be allowed inside and no children will be permitted at all. These will be strictly enforced for safety reasons.

Ellis County judge issues health precautions

In response to the national emergency speech on Friday by President Donald Trump, along with directives offered by Texas Governor Greg Abbott, Ellis County Judge Todd Little released the following statement to residents of the Lone Star State:

“At this time, we have made all the necessary precautions in Ellis County to protect the lives and health of our citizens. Ellis County supports President Trump and Governor Abbott in all mitigation efforts and the emergency declarations announced today.
